GREENSBORO -- Students in UNC Greensboro’s interior architecture department unveiled their take on the modern home, Friday.

On the surface it seemed like a pretty straight forward challenge – design, budget and build a home that could be used for resting, eating and cleaning.

The catch: do it with a 32-square foot footprint.

One of the buildings, shown rising above the students.
The results were two structures chosen from eight designs that were built using minimal materials, including lumber and sheet metal.

"One of the focuses here was on modernism,” said instructor Suzanne Buchanan. “And bringing modernism to Greensboro and that was one of the goals of this project was to really re-interpret the way we look at dwellings.”

Also, the structures must be easily disassembled and reassembled. The department may auction off the two structures to raise money for the next project.
