NORTH CAROLINA -- No matter where you’re at in the state, chances are you must currently abide by some sort of water restrictions.
There are a few simple changes that can be made around the house to make a big difference when it comes to conserving water. For starters, 75 percent of the water used in homes is used in the bathrooms.
Several products are designed to reduce the number of gallons that flow through faucets.
"It goes down our tubs, down our sinks, down our toilets,” said Kyle Jodice with LetsGoGreen.biz in regards to lost water. “Number 1 item is a low-flow shower head. Everyone should put a low-flow shower head in their home. This will save one to two gallons of water each minute your water is running."
There are a few simple changes that can be made around the house to make a big difference when it comes to conserving water.
Low-flow aerators are also important, as people can easily screw off the standard cap, and replace it with the low-flow version. It will help save 1-1.5 gallons of water each minute the faucet is running.
There is also the Toilet Tank Bank.
"The Toilet Tank Bank looks almost like a hot water bag,” said Jodice of the product. “Open it and fill it with water. It holds about a gallon of water. Open your toilet lid, clip it in, shut the lid, and walk away." Using this product will help save a gallon of water with each flush.
To help children conserve, there is the shower coach.
"[It] suction cups to the wall of the shower,” said Jodice of the shower-timing device. “You spin it when you start the shower. It teaches you to get out of the shower in five minutes …it's great to get young kids in good bath habits and conserving water."
