Quets denied visitation with twins

RALEIGH -- A judge has refused to grant visitation rights to a birth mother who kidnapped her twins from their adoptive parents and took them to Canada.

Wake County District Court Judge Anne Salisbury ruled this week that Allison Quets could not seek visitation because her parental rights had been terminated.

Quets picked up the toddlers for a scheduled visit in December 2006, then she didn't return them as required by a court agreement. She pleaded guilty to two counts of international parental kidnapping in September and was sentenced to five years' probation.

Quets is challenging the adoption, saying she was severely ill during her pregnancy and under duress when she relinquished the children after their birth in Florida. The Florida courts have upheld the adoption.
