TRIAD -- It’s the only one of its kind in the Triad, and gamers packed in for its inaugural tournament built on a video game phenomenon.
Owners of Mule Byes, an arcade for today’s X-Box generation, held their first Halo 3 tournament Saturday. Gamers of all ages came from across North Carolina and even Virginia, competing for a cash prize and bragging rights.
The tournament was a big draw for teams ready to prove they are the Halo 3 champions.
The winners of the Major League Gaming Championship walked away with a $500,000 check.
"They'll hold tournaments in different places in Greensboro, Raleigh or Charlotte and then at the end of the year they'll bring all those people that won the individual tournaments they'll bring all those together for a championship where the winner wins a [quite substantial] cash prize,” said Jared Miles, co-owner of Mule Bytes.
This weekend's winer, a team from Sanford, N.C., won the $200 pot and a free spot in the next tournament.
