News 14 Carolina's Bryn Hough is on the scene at Patricia Ryan Drive with more on the deadly blaze.
CHARLOTTE -- Firefighters are investigating the cause of a blaze that left two people dead.
The fire broke out early Monday morning at a home on Patricia Ryan Drive in northwest Charlotte. Neighbor Patrick Long saw the fire from his home and immediately called 911.
"I looked out the window and there were flames shooting out of the house,” he said. “After that, I ran across the street and tried to wake up whoever I could."
Long’s 911 call was too late. Fire officials say in a matter of minutes more than half of the house was engulfed in flames.
"As firefighters knocked down the fire conditions in the initial search, we located one victim in the house and it was a few minutes later on a secondary search – afte rthe fire was knocked down and the smoke conditions improved -- we located a second person who perished here in this house fire," said Capt. Rob Brisley, of the Charlotte Fire Department.
Fire officials are teaming up with police detectives to find out how the blaze began and who the victims are.
"We have a joint investigation which is side by side,” Brisley explained. “The fire investigation is going to work to determine the origin and cause and at the same time, there is a death investigation to better answer questions how these people may have perished in this fire."
After the fire, someone did arrive on the scene but it's not known at this time if that person was a friend or a family member of those who died. Police are now questioning that individual.
