Former truancy officer in court

The superintendent of the Thomasville schools said Ray was terminated in January, and added the system's investigation determined he had inappropriate contact with the student.
LEXINGTON -- Stanford Lee Ray, 50, of Thomasville had a video first appearance in Davidson District Court in Lexington.


School officials say he's a former dropout prevention coordinator at Thomasville High School.


He appeared before Judge Ted Royster. Ray's accused of a sexual offense involving a student in the fall of 2006. Royster said Ray could, "receive up to a maximum of 44 months in prison."


Ray surrendered to authorities in Charlotte on Monday and was returned to Davidson County to face the charges.


Ray said he had hired an attorney to represent him, and is being held in the Davidson Co. Jail, under $50,000 secured bond.

The student hasn't been identified, but school officials say she has since dropped out.


Ray's next court day has been set for Feb. 26.
