CHAPEL HILL -- Police believe they have a major break in the murder case of UNC-Chapel Hill's student body president Eve Carson.
A surveillance photo was released this morning, and police are calling the person in the picture a person of interest.
Police say the man used Carson's ATM card at a machine in Chapel Hill but they won't say if he got any money, when the picture was snapped, or which bank.
"I don't know for sure, but just from looking at the picture it appears as if it is possible that it's the victim’s vehicle," Chapel Hill Police Chief Brian Curran said.
The news comes three days after Carson’s body was found in an intersection near campus. Her 2005 Toyota Highlander was found Thursday afternoon less than a mile away.
Investigators are now asking for anyone's help to identify the person of interest.
"This is our biggest break by far in this case," Curran added. "I know we're just in the first couple days of this but this is our strongest lead right now and we are hopeful we will be able to get this guy identified."
Meanwhile just eight miles down the road in Durham, Duke University students continued to camp out for the big game against UNC. They are rivals to the end but Saturday there's as much compassion as competition.
Police say this photo was taken at an ATM machine of a person of interest in the case.
Duke men’s basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski pulled the students camping for seats out of the rain last night to address the death of Carson.
"He just emphasized to be respectful during the game and be very courteous that Carolina’s going through a rough time right now," Duke student Matthew Pease said. "And I think the students were pretty receptive to his message."
Duke student Michael Bern added, "He opened it up for questions and one student asked if we should act any different because of that and he said we should probably not do the “Go to hell, Carolina” chant."
In the end a game is a game but everyone is now focused on finding the person in the picture and finding out who killed Carson.
Investigators say anyone with information in this case should call CrimeStoppers. That number is 919-942-7515.
