Search Continues
News 14 Carolina's Heather Moore has the story, as the search continues for information regarding the murder of Eve Carson, UNC-Chapel Hill's student body president.
Worried Residents
The murder has put many on edge in the typically-quiet college town.
CHAPEL HILL -- Chapel Hill Police continue to search for a man pictured in an ATM machine photograph. He’s considered a person of interest in the Eve Carson murder investigation.

Investigators say the man tried to use Carson’s ATM card at a Chapel Hill bank. Now, they feel the surveillance photo is their biggest lead.

“This is the biggest break by far in this case,” said Brian Curran of the Chapel Hill Police Department. “I know we're just in the first couple days of this but this is our strongest lead right now and we are hopeful we will be able to get this guy identified.”

The UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees is offering $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

The murder has put many on edge in the typically-quiet college town.

“It’s kind of just a shock of reality -- not every place is as safe as you think it is,” said Kat Brenner, a Chapel Hill resident. “It's just kind of scary it could happen in such a small town.”

After Chapel Hill Police Chief Brain Curran announced that he was of the opinion that Carson’s murder was likely a random crime, some are concerned.

“Just random makes me feel a lot less safe because if this person just wants to kill random people then who knows who would be next?” commented Natalie Daaka, another Chapel Hill resident. “Maybe me, maybe someone else, maybe someone I know.”

Added Brenner, “It’s scary, because if it is a random crime, then anyone of us who’s walking the street could be next.”

This wasn’t the first murder in Chapel Hill so far this year. A drive-by shooting last month killed 51-year-old Marshal Brown, bringing the total number of murders this year to at least two, though there wasn’t a single homicide in Chapel Hill in 2007.

Eve Carson, UNC-CH student body president, was found murdered earlier this week.
This man is considered a person of interest in the case by the Chapel Hill Police.
