SMITHFIELD, N.C. -- One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident Thursday night in Johnston County.

Police say the car hit a utility pole just before 9:30 p.m. on Highway 210 at Cleveland Road, knocking out power to hundreds of residents. The accident also shut down a section of Highway 210 while crews worked to clear the scene.

One other person in the car was life-flighted to Duke Hospital and there is no word on theat person’s condition.
