NORTH CAROLINA -- UNC-Chapel Hill Police are saying a report of a student being attacked on campus Friday morning now have been declared to be false.

Brian Sharpe, a senior at UNC-CH, told officials that a man with a gun walked up to him near Wilson Library. He told them the robber demanded money and struck him in the head. Investigators say Sharpe gave them false information, and no crime happened.

It’s unclear how Sharpe was injured.

Earlier this month, a woman lied to police after she told them someone attacked her near Duke Hospital. The 21-year-old claimed the crime happened March 6.

Investigators found several inconsistencies in the woman’s story.

March 3, Appalachian State was the site of a major hoax that left the school on lockdown for two hours.

Matthew Haney, a student at the school, lied about seeing a gunman on campus. Officers have charged him with filing a false police report.
