Allegiant Air to stay at PTI

By: Associated Press

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Allegiant Airlines has decided it will keep on flying into Piedmont Triad International Airport after all.

The airline had previously announced plans to end service at the airport in Greensboro as of May 31, citing fuel costs and low passenger numbers.

But the News & Record of Greensboro reported Friday that the demise of Skybus, another low-fare carrier that has shut down and ended service at PTI, led Allegiant to change its plans.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant said it will keep its nonstop flights from Greensboro to Orlando and Tampa. It also plans to restore a flight to Fort Lauderdale it dropped in January, and will have a total of eight departures a week from the airport.
