RALEIGH -- With the North Carolina primary just days away, both Democrats vying for the White House planned to make a last-minute push to persuade voters on Friday.

Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are slated to speak at the annual Jefferson Jackson dinner held by North Carolina Democrats on Friday night at the N.C State Fairgrounds. The event is sold out, and with all the added attention on the Tar Heel State this year, the dinner is expected to be one of the biggest ever.

Raleigh is only the final destination for the candidates on Friday. Both have events scheduled around the state Friday before they make their way to Raleigh in the evening.

Obama will be in Charlotte for an event to encourage voters to turn out at the polls on May 6. Clinton will start out down east in Kinston and travel to Hendersonville and Greensboro.

On her last visit on Monday, Clinton appeared with Gov. Mike Easley and he endorsed her.

"Politically it’s very meaningful, but even more than that it's great to have someone who understands what we really have to do to transform our country, to be prepared for the 21st century,” Clinton said of the endorsement.

Obama also has a number of key endorsements across the state. He has won the support of many North Carolina congressmen as well as almost two dozen mayors, including mayors in Raleigh and Greensboro, as well as the former Democratic mayor of Charlotte. Still Obama said he hopes voters don't base their decision on endorsements.

"Hopefully what they've seen me do during this campaign and my entire life of public service, that's what they're going to be making their judgments on when they go into the polls on Tuesday,” he said.

The two candidates aren't alone for this last-minute push. Michelle Obama will be in Durham Friday for a voter rally, and Chelsea Clinton will attend a campus question-and-answer session at Salem College and then head to Lexington.
