Helping put the 'life' in 'wildlife'

CHARLOTTE -- The Animal Rehabilitation of the Carolinas organization is helping small animals out in a big way by assisting abandoned or orphaned baby animals back to the wild.

"We just feel like these animals have the right to life and that's what we do, we give them that second chance,” said Sherry Johnson, who along with Mary Morrison is a volunteer for ARC. On Sunday, the two were looking over some baby raccoons they are currently fostering.

News 14 Carolina’s Bryn Hough sat down with the two volunteers and their family of raccoons.
While some of the animals are kept inside, others get to enjoy the outdoors in the backyard. With them, the women are hoping to help educate others on wildlife rescue by offering a wildlife rescue class. "It covers their diet, caging, medication,” explained Johnson.

They are also hoping to teach others the basics of Mother Nature. “It is important that people know what to do when they encounter wildlife,” Johnson added.

ARC is hosting two rehabilitation classes beginning in September. For more information, click HERE.
