WAKE COUNTY -- A man out walking his dog Monday evening found a body on the banks of a nearby pond that police believe could be that of a Cary woman missing since Saturday.
Investigators said the stormwater pond is located off Britt Abbey Road. That's near Fielding Road in Wake County close to Holly Springs Road, about one mile from the home of missing jogger Nancy Cooper.
"There is a possibility that this could be our Nancy. We are working with the Wake County Sheriff's Department, we have notified Nancy's family, as well as the leaders of our extraordinary volunteer group," Cary police Chief Pat Bazemore said.
"We ask that your thoughts and prayers be with all of them as we face what could possibly be a very sad reality."

Cooper, 34, went for a run Saturday morning and never returned home. That set off an exhaustive search for her over the weekend that lasted through Monday.
That search and the efforts of more than 100 people -- including dozens of volunteers -- have been suspended as Wake County Sherif's Deputies investigate the body found Monday night.
Search teams did not look in the Lochmere area where the body was found. They stuck mainly to the trails that Cooper frequented on her morning jogs.
The body is being taken to the State Medical Examiner's Office for a positive identification and autopsy.
Cooper is married and has two children. Her family is from Canada, and her twin sister arrived in Cary on Monday.
