BELMONT -- Police say 44-year-old Charla Davis turned herself in Friday morning in connection with a deadly hit-and-run near the Gaston-Mecklenburg County line.
The accident happened around 10 p.m. Thursday night on the Catawba River Bridge near Wilkinson Boulevard. Police say Calvin Adams of Dallas, N.C. was driving on US 29/74 when he started to have a seizure or possible stroke.
After he stopped the car in the east-bound travel lane, several in the vehicle got out and came to his side of the car to help.
Ronnie Gene Eudy, who was driving a tractor-trailer in the same direction, stopped behind Adams’ vehicle and got out to help as well.
One is dead while two others are in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident.
It was after this that Davis, who was traveling west, struck Eudy as well as Betty Faye Adams and Jerry Ames Leach. Police say she did not stop at the crash scene. Her vehicle was located by police in Mount Holly at 3 a.m., but Davis was not found.
"We want to know what happened before the incident,” said Belmont Police Chief David James. “Was alcohol involved? Was anybody else in the vehicle?”

Eudy and Betty Adams were airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center. Eudy died around 2 a.m. and Betty Adams is in critical condition. Leach and Calvin Adams were transported to Carolinas Medical Center by ground. Calvin Adams is also in critical condition from his medical situation. Leach was treated and released.
“You hit one, you stop. You hit four people and keep going, that’s bad, real bad,” said Ralph Ferrell, Eury’s step dad.
James said the department is waiting for all evidence before pressing charges in the case. It will go before the district attorney on Monday.
