CHARLOTTE – More than a dozen Charlotte Mecklenburg School District 2 applicants looked to showcase new perspective and vision Wednesday night as each had three minutes to convince the members to seat them on the board.
“This group needs a new vision, a new perspective on how to make this school system better,” candidate Melvin Wallace said.
Most of the applicants were a mix of retired educators and CMS parents.
“I think my presence on this board will result in increased parent and community involvement in our schools,” Aaron Sanders said.
Other applicants stressed a more urgent tone to make all district classrooms stronger, help teachers become more effective and hold the district more accountable.
“I realize it’s going to take going inside those areas where kids are downhearted,” Valarie Fahmy said.
Current CMS school board members will make their decision before Tuesday’s meeting.
That person will be sworn in and seated and will participate during the meeting.
Before Wednesday’s open comments, one candidate withdrew their application and another candidate was found to live outside of District 2.
