CONCORD -- A storm packing a tornado and large hail pounded parts of the area Sunday, leaving some people frightened and amazed.
In Cabarrus and northern Mecklenburg counties, the storm dropped hail on the roads, cars and several neighborhoods.
"It was unbelievable. I thought for sure something was going to come through the sunroof of the car," said Lynn Hiers, who sat in her car at her Concord home with her husband and two children, waiting for the storm to pass.
"It was exciting at first, until I thought that a tornado was coming. I was trying to think how I was going to get the kids out of the car and into the house because we were in our drive staring at the garage."
"First thing I thought was a possible tornado, safety of the kids and the family, my parents are visiting," said Robert Monto, one of Hiers' neighbors.
No tornado touched down in Concord, but people in Lincoln County and other parts of Cabarrus and Stanly counties reported seeing funnel clouds.
