RALEIGH – Volunteers with The Salvation Army in Fayetteville say the need this holiday season is greater than ever before.

Maj. Jerry Lyle said he's seen a 35- to 40-percent increase in people looking for help compared to years past.

"There are children out there that may go without any gifts under the tree, kind of gives you that push to do whatever you can to make sure there's no child left without a gift this time of the year," Lyle said.

The Salvation Army is asking people to find a way to help out neighbors this Christmas. Even if donors can't give a monetary donation, volunteers are asking them to find anything they can't use.

Volunteer Marvin Pridgen said it feels good to give back. He said he hopes others can dig deep into their wallets or hearts to do the same.

"I hope that the community will pitch in and give back also. Just finding things that we can give back to the community," Pridgen said.
