FAYETTEVILLE – The holiday season is in high gear and it seems the economy has some changing the way they travel.

With air travel down 7 percent this year, some are turning to the bus as an alternative. Dozens of travelers filled the Fayetteville Greyhound station Wednesday morning.

One of them was Karen Justice, who was traveling to Maryland to spend Thanksgiving with her grandchildren. She said she chose the bus because it was the cheapest option.

"It was the basic decision,” Justice said. “I looked at train travel because I do like the train, but it was just too expensive, so I was willing to spend my last dime to get there because I love my grandchildren that much."

Bus and train travel is expected to be up 3 percent this season.
