BOONE, N.C. -- It could be mid-week by the time power is fully restored to people in Watauga and Ashe counties.
Last week's ice storm took out power to more than 8,000 homes, and as of Sunday evening, 6,000 were still without electricity.
“Just one broken pole will take three to four hours to repair or replace, and we have between 50 and 75 broken poles,” said Renee Whitener, of Blue Ridge Electric. “It’s slow going but they’re out there working as long as they can each day."
Officials say more than 200 line men are working daily to restore power. Crews from neighboring utility co-ops are also helping.
