Marathon brings economic boost to Wrightsville Beach

Wrightsville Beach hosted its first full marathon Sunday morning. More than 1,800 runners laced up their shoes bright and early to hit the pavement for the 26.2-mile run. But they're also hoping to bring big money to the economy.

Police and South Carolina wildlife officials are looking for four people involved in a boating accident on Lake Wylie. Two fishermen said they were near the Buster Boyd Bridge when they say a boat rammed them and took off.

Bystander killed in wreck stemming from pursuit

A bystander was killed during a pursuit involving a State Highway Patrol Trooper and a suspect Saturday night in Charlotte. Highway Patrol officials say Latia Winchester was killed when Eddie Ellison struck her vehicle as he tried to flee from authorities.

Springfield Middle School principal faces sex charges

A former Wilson County middle school principal is expected to appear in court Monday on child sex charges. According to the state court system Web site, 41-year-old Ronald Earl Barringer is charged with third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.

N.C. State football player charged with beating driver

An N.C. State football player from Mooresville is accused of beating up a shuttle bus driver. Police say 20-year-old Justin Ross Sweezy is charged with misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor larceny. Football coach Tom O'Brien has suspended Sweezy indefinitely.
