Churches preach about importance of Census

Community groups are doing their part to make sure North Carolina households are filling out and mailing back their Census forms. At the First Baptist Church in Raleigh, church officials distributed fliers in programs and handed out 2010 Census fans in the pews.

Police and South Carolina wildlife officials are looking for four people involved in a boating accident on Lake Wylie. Two fishermen said they were near the Buster Boyd Bridge when they say a boat rammed them and took off.

Bystander killed in wreck stemming from pursuit

A bystander was killed during a pursuit involving a State Highway Patrol Trooper and a suspect Saturday night in Charlotte. Highway Patrol officials say Latia Winchester was killed when Eddie Ellison struck her vehicle as he tried to flee from authorities.

With a vote on health care reform looming in Congress, more than 100 people hit the streets in Charlotte to make their position known. They marched from Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church to the square on Trade and Tryon streets in Uptown Charlotte.

Thousands of families line up for groceries from nonprofits

Saturday, Feed the Children, the Park Church and the Salvation army teamed up to distribute food and personal care items to 3,200 families. Each family received a 25-pound food box, a 10-pound box of toiletries and a box of Avon products.

Police have issued a warrant for 22-year-old Amanda Sawyer. They say an officer was looking into her well-being when she drove away and dragged the officer a short distance. He was sent to the hospital and released.

Shots fired in nigthclub parking lot hit drivers passing by

An overnight shooting in the parking lot outside the nightclub Bentley's RSVP on West Fourth Street sent four people to the hospital just before 2 a.m. Saturday. Two of those people had been driving by the club. None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries.
